Almost three-quarters of a million vehicles are being recalled by Mercedes-Benz for a defective sunroof. Car model years from 2001 to 2011 are affected, and risk their sunroofs suddenly detaching. If this were to happen, it could cause a serious road hazard. Some of the affected models are C, CLK, CLS, and E Class sedans, coupes, and wagons. The C, CLK, CLS, and E class from 1999 to 2010 are not on the list, but if the sunroof was repaired anytime after being purchased, they could also be subject to this recall.
So far, the luxury automaker says they are unaware of any injuries or damages due to the defective sunroof. However, if you are unsure if your vehicle is affected, be sure to call your dealership or enter your cars VIN on the NHTSA website.
According to the recall notice, the bonding that keeps the sunroof on can easily detach. Mercedes-Benz says they will inspect the affected cars, and replace the roof free of charge if needed.
