After a Sunday afternoon crash on the Southwest Side, two people were taken to the hospital. The crash is said to have happened at Old Sky Harbor Dr and Old Pearsall Rd. According to police, a man in his 30’s was driving eastbound at high speeds, and crashed into a small red car. The impact of the crash launched the red vehicle forward, crashing into another vehicle. The speeding driver fled the scene on foot. However, he was soon apprehended by police. He has been charged with failure to stop and render aid. SAPD is also waiting on a blood draw to determine other possible charges. One male and one female were taken to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Hit and Run
Failure to stop and render aid is a serious offense. In some cases, people may have to serve jail time for failure to perform their duty of care. In Texas, all drivers owe each other a certain level of care. If you were in a car crash, you are responsible to stop, give the other driver your contact and insurance information, and render aid, if needed. There are many reasons a driver may flee the scene of an accident, but some common reasons are:
- A suspended License
- Driving Under the Influence.
- Having committed some illegal activity
- Having no auto insurance.
