The Dangers of Roaming Dogs

dog-catcher catches stray dog

According to a report, an 83 year old woman was attacked and killed after a dog attacked her in San Antonio. This is obviously an uncommon result to a dog attack, but it brings up many concerns, considering San Antonio has about 150,000 dogs who roam the city streets because of negligence owners. These attacks are particularly scary, because you can’t always find someone to sue when the dogs attack. If you don’t know who the owner is, then it’s difficult to find someone who can pay for the damages. It’s also worth noting that these dogs are quite dangerous, since they have probably seen poor conditions in their previous homes, causing them to lash out against humans. Many of them also haven’t been treated for diseases leading to further problems.

Let’s take a look at the dangers you can find with roaming dogs in the San Antonio area.

Ownerless Dogs Carry Diseases

In this story you’ll notice that the woman who was attacked endured various different infections because the dog that attacked was riddled with disease. Since roaming dogs don’t have proper owners they increase the chances of death because they carry diseases like rabies. This is just another reason to avoid dogs that don’t have owners. Simply call the police or an animal control center if you see a dog with no owner.

These Dogs Are Often Scared of Humans

Since many of these roaming dogs come from bad homes, you have to realize that the dog have seen poor conditions in these previous homes. They might have been abused or not fed, giving the dogs a certain fear or resent for humans in general. Since these dogs are more scared of humans than the average dogs they are more prone to lash out in fear. It’s also worth noting that many of these dogs haven’t eaten in a while, making any type of being worth attacking.

Roaming Dogs Might Attack You in Seemingly Safe Areas

The case stated in our introduction explains that the female victim was just steps from her home when she was attacked by the pitbull in San Antonio. This is scary, because the woman was minding her own business, on her own property and not provoking the dog at all. Even though it wasn’t the dogs fault for attacking the woman you need to realize that there aren’t safe areas to prevent these attacks. A poor owner caused this dog to attack, and the owner didn’t care for the dog, so it simply roamed around the city and ended up in the woman’s yard. Keep an eye out for dangerous dogs no matter how safe an environment you are in.
