A few days ago, the Houston based food manufacturer, Pita Pals issued a voluntary recall of almost 90 different types of hummus products. Why? Listeria was found at the manufacturing facility. During the FDA inspection, they concluded that no listeria was found in the finished product. However, to be safe, if you have bought a Pita pall hummus product that was made between May 30th to June 25th, you should return it as soon as possible for a full refund. According to the FDA, Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause a serious infection in the elderly, children, and anyone else with a weak immune system. Be on the lookout for the symptoms. High fever, headaches, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and stiffness are all possible warning signs that you may have Listeria. If you experience any of these symptoms after consuming a Pita Pals product, see a doctor immediately. Listeria causes around 200 deaths every year. While healthy individuals will only experience symptoms for a short time, its best to be safe and see your health care provider. Recalls like this need to be taken seriously.
