A stuntwoman for the film series “Resident Evil” has sued the producers after an accident during filming resulted in the loss of her arm. She claims that the producers put profits above safety, and this resulted in her horrible accident. The lawsuit filed in Los Angeles says the producers went back on their promise to pay for her medical bills. She estimates that her medical bills will be somewhere around $750,000 to $1.2 million. Something that shouldn’t be a problem for the producers. The $40 million budget film has grossed over $300 million.
Oliva Jackson was the stuntwoman hired to double for Mila Jovovich, the film’s star. Mrs. Jovovich plays the main character, Alice, in the franchise. Mrs. Jackson says her in the suit that the writer and director of the film had no excuse for the lack of safety on set. Especially of this caliber
The accident occurred when Jackson was asked to do a complicated stunt. She would drive a motorcycle directly at a camera, in bad weather. The camera crane was attached to another vehicle. Unfortunately, the crane operator didn’t raise the camera in time. Jackson smashed into the crane. This sliced the bone in her forearm clean off, and tore off her cheek, exposing her teeth. The impact was so brutal, it twisted her shoulder blade and ripped nerves connected to her spinal column. As a result of the accident, Jackson’s arm had to be amputated and she was put into a medically induced coma.
Jackson has been a top stunt double in Hollywood for years. She has appeared in massive titles such as Star Wars and Guardians of the Galaxy. This injury and the producer’s negligence has ruined her career.
