Safety Tips for New Year’s Eve

new year's

New Year’s Eve is one of the most exciting times of the year. Being able to bring in the New Year with friends, family, and fireworks is a tradition many people hold dearly. However, you have to remember to have fun, safely. Accidents tend to rise during the holidays, so we’re going to go over somethings to keep in mind while you have fun counting down to midnight!

Plan a Way Home

It’s not uncommon to head out to a party for the New Year. However, with COVID still being an issue, social distancing should still be taken into consideration.  If you do head out to celebrate the new year, you should plan a safe ride home in advance. Many people could be drinking and driving and being on the road becomes much more dangerous when incapable drivers are out. Even with COVID stopping many parties, that won’t stop drunk drivers.

Avoid Car Theft

New Year’s isn’t just a popular time for fireworks. Car thieves tend to celebrate the occasion doing what they know best. Stealing unattended cars. New Year’s in the second most active day for car thefts. If you can, avoid leaving your car somewhere unfamiliar overnight. If you know you won’t be able to drive home, its best to find another ride to the party. It’s safer for you and lowers the risk of having your car stolen.

This time of the year is also a popular time for vandalism, so keeping your car at home in the garage or driveway might be a good way to prevent paying for a new window or fixing tires. Shattered glass in your car isn’t anyone’s ideal holiday celebration.

Fireworks

Guns and fireworks usually make a guest appearance at most parties during this time. It’s best to avoid using in crowded areas. A large group of people in a densely populated area, mixed with explosions can often lead to a bad time. If you are going to be using fireworks, be sure to do so in an area safe for that activity.
