Criminal Probe Into Vaping Deaths Launched by FDA

Vaping

On Thursday, officials at the FDA announced that the Office of Criminal Investigations has been looking into the vaping epidemic. They announced that this probe has been going on since the first illnesses were reported this summer. So far, the exact cause of the illnesses is still unknown. While it’s believed that THC pods are causing this, the OCI says they do not plan on prosecuting individual users. So far, no individual product has been identified as being the cause. All cases involved a different range of products. Right now the FDA is testing over 150 vape products. The only thing they have found is the vitamin E might be the cause of the issues.

The FDA is taking these deaths seriously. They have sent ultimatums to e-cigarette makers to change their marketing to not include underaged users. State and Federal legislators are considering a vaping ban. States like Michigan have already passed a ban on flavored vape products. It’s hard to determine what will happen at the federal level. Lawmakers have gone back and forth on whether they plan on banning vaping products or just regulating them.
