Have a Volkswagen? You might Be Entitled To Compensation

Volkswagen

Today, July 29, 2019, Volkswagen is offering reimbursement for previous tire rotations and offering free tire rotations thanks to a class-action lawsuit filed in Florida. Volkswagen was accused of knowingly selling cars with defective suspensions. The car manufacturer settled for $57 million to end the federal class-action lawsuit. This includes $7.7 million in attorneys fees and $2500 in awards for the class representatives of the case.

OE Continental ContiProContact Tires in sizes 235/40R18 and 235/45R17 are eligible for $254 and $208 respectively to make up for out of pocket costs. However, you are only eligible if the tires had to be replaced after less than 35,000 miles. Originally, VW was charged with a more, but the judge decided that some of these charges were out of the statute of limitations.

Did VW Take Responsibility?

Volkswagen did not admit the claims were valid at any point and claims no wrongdoing at all. However, this settlement releases them from the claims made by the class. The Models affected were 2009 CC models and newer. The defective suspension made it so the wheels could not be adjusted when they slowly become out of alignment. This causes faster wear and tear on the car. Apparently, VW knew about this problem all along and just told dealerships and repair shops to replace the tires.
