18-Wheeler Driver Falls Asleep at Wheel

trucking

Regardless of what vehicle you drive, it’s dangerous to drive tired.  According to the CDC, drowsy drivers were responsible for over 72,000 crashes and 800 deaths. A frightening statistic that should concern anyone out on the roads. According to the CDC’s fact page on drowsy drivers, there are several groups of people prone to drowsy driving. One of them is commercial drivers. That’s why it’s not surprising to learn about the latest accident in South of Diboll, Texas. The driver of the 18-wheeler fell asleep while transporting hazardous materials. While driving northbound on US Hwy 59, Bruce Jackson fell asleep at the wheel. While asleep, he veered into a grass median. According to the police, when Jackson woke up, he overcorrected and veered to the right. Then, the driver lost control of his vehicle and the 18 wheeler overturned, blocking both northbound lanes. TxDOT claims a hazmat crew had to be called to help clean up the wreckage.  According to reports, no one was killed in the accident, but the driver was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The damage 18-wheelers can cause is detrimental. That’s why it’s important to hold trucking companies responsible for their actions. These companies often overwork drivers or hire untrained drivers to haul their goods across the country. This mix of negligence can lead to devastating consequences for all involved. Often, these accidents result in injuries a person has to deal with for the rest of their life.
