Honda has just issued a worldwide recall for over 1.4 million vehicles that have a defective fuel pump installed. This serious issue can cause affected vehicles to randomly stall while driving. According to Honda, 136,057 Honda and Acura vehicles are affected in the U.S. So far, there have been no reports of any accidents or injuries.
The problem is to believe to be caused by the fuel pump supplier, Denso. According to reports, the pumps were “exposed to production solvent drying for longer periods of time.” This, according to the NHTSA, could have cased surface cracking and excessive fuel absorption. This could eventually lead to the impeller to deform or fail. Fuel pumps produced outside of the dates listed below are not affected.
Honda will notify customers by the end of July. Affected customers will be able to take their vehicle to their dealership and have the pump modules replaced or repaired free of charge. The affected vehicles are 2018 and 2019 Honda Accord, Civic Hatchback, Civic Type R, and HR-V as well as the 2019 Fit and 2019 and 2020 Insight. Also covered are the 2019 Acura RDX, RLX, and RLX Sport Hybrid and the 2018 and 2019 NSX.
