Kia Recalls 229,000 Vehicles

recall

A wave of vehicle recalls has been hitting the news lately. Most notably, Hyundai has a sizable recall fro an issue that would but their vehicles at risk of catching on fire. It appears that Kia now has a similar issue. In documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Kia is issuing a recalled due to their ABS brakes. According to the documents released, the antilock brake module has the potential to state fire in some 2006-2010 model cars. A short circuit could occur in the module and spark a fire even if the car isn’t running.

Just like with the Hyundai recall, Kia claims this issue is due to moisture entering the module. This will cause the problem to get worse over time. If you have one of the affected cars, you should take it to your dealership right away. Kia has already created a fix for the issue. A technician will install a relay on the junction box to neutralize any risk of short-circuiting the ABS. Unfortunately, this recall comes after over 3,100 complaints were received about vehicles catching on fire. There have been 103 injuries so far.

Kia’s recall will begin on April 10 with notices mailing out to owners. Notices will start being mailed to affected customers by April 3. You can click here to see if your car is one of the affected models.
