Hours ago, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a recall for Volvo’s s60 sedans. This recall affects s60 sedans from models years 2011 all the way to 2017. According to the NHTSA, the door may open unexpectedly while the car is in motion. Apparently, there is a major issue with the door latch mechanism, which is more likely to fail in extremely hot weather. Even if the door appears to be tightly closed, the door can suddenly swing open on sharp turns and roundabouts. If you have one of the affected cars, you should be contacted by Volvo by January 24th.
If you have one of these affected cars, you should take your car to your Volvo dealership. They will be able to replace all four door latches for free. If you’re unsure if your car is affected, you can enter your cars VIN number on the NHTSA website to see if there are any open recalls on your vehicle. You can also call Volvo at 800-458-1552. The reference number for this recall is R89978.
