Pedestrian accidents are not always the easiest accidents to avoid. Think about how much you pay attention when you are simply walking down the street. You might be staring at your phone or talking to a friend the car comes out of nowhere and hits you. This doesn’t mean that pedestrian accidents cannot be avoided when you’re walking on the sidewalk or down the street. The Internet is filled with ways on how to keep yourself safe while walking down the street, but we want to explore some unique methods on how to stay safe as a person who is walking.

Draw Up a Map That Outlines Safe Walking Areas

Many roads don’t even have sidewalks, making them much more dangerous than roads that do. There are also roads that have more cars on them than usual or they are considered more dangerous areas in terms of socioeconomics. In order to protect your children and all of your loved ones, you should drop a map that outlines areas that are safe for walking. Include paths that stray away from busy streets and look for shortcuts such as parks and alleyways that might make it a little bit easier to avoid cars that are driven by poor drivers.

Walk in Groups to See What’s Going On

Although walking in groups increases the number of injuries that could occur if you do actually get into an accident, it also improves your chances of noticing a car that is about to hit you. Walking groups so that you have multiple people who are watching the road. Keep in mind that cars are not your only threat. There might be threats from construction sites or even bikers who are riding on the sidewalk.

Walk Against Traffic

Although this sometimes seems a little bit scarier for most people. However, walking against traffic gives you a clear view of what is coming towards you. What is scarier than getting hit by a car from behind when you least expect it? Walking against traffic allows you to see exactly what’s in front of you. For example,  if the car is straying off the road. Who knows? Some of the drivers might be drunk or someone might fall asleep. You can’t prevent these unless you see the car coming towards you.
