According to the lawsuit, two ironworkers claim they are suffering from career-ending injuries due to Amazon’s negligence. They allege that the injuries occurred when a storage rack fell on them. Because of the lack of supervision, the two ironworkers are asking an Illinois jury to hold Amazon responsible. According to the men, the racks that were supposed to be bolted to the floor, fell on them when an unlicensed forklift operated knocked into the racks, causing them to fall. Amazon claims that the company responsible for the installation is at fault for the accident.
So, the two companies are pointing fingers at each other. According to the attorney of the two ironworkers, the real party at fault is Amazon. Amazon had a representative at the facility at all times. This representative could have stepped in when they realized the installation company was not following safety guidelines. Instead, Amazon was allegedly more concerned about meeting its deadlines. According to Amazon, Steel King, the company responsible for the installation is liable. They apparently signed a contract with Amazon claiming they were solely responsible for the project. Steel King blames the subcontractor they hired. Lakeside Rack Installers. This is the company the two plaintiffs worked for. According to Steel King, Lakeside chose to bring in more workers, and then have an unlicensed forklift driver operate a forklift.
One of the ironworkers says his upper row of teeth have been displaced, and his jaw was wired shut for over two months. He has also suffered irreparable nerve damage, causing him to suffer from uncontrollable twitching and double vision. The other worker injured his left knee and right wrist. He underwent surgery for both and needed a knee replacement.
