Back in 2013, a Greyhound bus coming from New York was involved in a crash with an 18-wheeler. While on its way to Ohio, the bus driver fell asleep at the wheel in Pennsylvania. While the driver was asleep, the bus crashed into the 18 wheeler going 67 miles per hour. There were over 40 passengers on the bus, some of which who died. 23 people brought cases against Greyhound. Many of the passengers were from outside the country. The suit involved people from 8 different countries.
The jury found the Greyhound bus driver and Greyhound itself to be 100% liable. The bus lines defense was at the scene, a state trooper said that the tractor-trailer driver was at fault. The 18 wheeler was going 16 miles per hour on the highway and did not activate its hazard lights. However, the jury saw things differently. They said that Greyhound failed to prevent driver fatigue, and if the driver was awake, the accident could have been 100% avoidable. Greyhound then appealed the verdicts, but they were unsuccessful. This is because of their defense. They claimed the driver suffered from a stroke. There was no evidence of this, and the jury didn’t by it.
Thankfully, the victims were able to be compensated for the damages they had to face, due to the negligence of Greyhound.
