Tesla Cars Experiencing Unintended Acceleration

tesla

Recent reports just released to the public show complaints by numerous Tesla owners about unintended acceleration problems. Apparently, Tesla Modes S, X, and 3 have this issue and resulted in over 110 accidents. So far, 52 people have reported injuries.  Numerous news sources say 127 different tesla cars have experienced this issue.

Currently, the National Highway  Transportation Safety Administration is to review these allegations. They will soon decide if they will continue with a defect investigation based on the current evidence. Tesla responded to the accusations saying: “This petition is completely false and was brought by a Tesla short-seller. We investigate every single incident where the driver alleges to us that their vehicle accelerated contrary to their input, and in every case where we had the vehicle’s data, we confirmed that the car operated as designed. ”

They continued stating: “While accidents caused by a mistaken press of the accelerator pedal have been alleged for nearly every make/model of vehicle on the road, the accelerator pedals in Model S, X and 3 vehicles have two independent position sensors, and if there is any error, the system defaults to cut off motor torque.”

Often, unintended vehicle acceleration happens when pedals or throttles get stuck, or a simple user error. If you are in a situation where your car unintentionally accelerates, you should hit the brakes. If this doesn’t work,  shift to neutral or park. Shifting into neutral or park will stop the engine power from reaching your wheels, while still keep features like brakes, power steering, and airbags on.
