On Friday, the first reported death that may be linked to vaping occurred in Illinois. Apparently, an adult man was hospitalized with respiratory illness, and soon after being emitted, died. This is after the Illinois Public Health Department announced that 22 different people have been sickened after using e-cigarettes. Symptoms include shortness of breath, vomiting, diarrhea, and coughing, according to the health department. The majority of these cases have been affecting men, around their early 20’s.
“Vaping exposes users to many different substances for which we have little information about related harms — including flavorings, nicotine, cannabinoids, and solvents,” said the director of the CDC. According to him, there have been 193 potential vaping cases that may have caused lung illnesses since June. Some of the patients claim to have been vaping THC oils, which is the active ingredient in marijuana. It is unclear if this THC oil or the regular nicotine “e-juice” is causing these problems.
